WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Franklin College cross country teams wrapped up their regular seasons on Friday afternoon, taking part in the #JENNASTRONG Classic, hosted by Wilmington College.
Both fields featured 30 or more teams participating in the annual event. The Franklin men placed 20th as a unit while the women brought home a 21st place finish.
Topping the leaderboard for the Franklin men was a familiar face in sophomore Clayton Brumfield. Brumfield turned in another strong showing in the 8K race, placing 58th overall with a time of 27:33.1. Right on his heels was fellow sophomore Blaine Conners, who was just 21 seconds off of Brumfield's pace at 27:54.3, finishing 74th overall.
Freshman Chris Graham clocked in at 28:56.2, good for 130th overall. Junior Heath Deugan's time of 29:35.1 was a season-best in the 5K and earned him a 170th place finish overall.
Freshman Logan Vandermark (193rd/30:06.6), junior J.T. Sargent (201st/30:21.9), sophomore Adam Rector (222nd/30:57.6), sophomore Sean Groves (265th/32:41.8) and sophomore Alex Creamer (276th/33:14.9) rounded out the times and finishes for the Grizzlies.
For the third time in four events, freshman Krista Robinson led the way for the Franklin women's team. The Greenwood, Ind.-native turned in another strong 5K performance, taking 38th place overall with a personal-best time of 20:03.2, two seconds better than her previous career-best time.
Senior Rachel Bowden was the only other Grizzly to place inside the top-100, grabbing 70th place after crossing the finish line in 20:51.8. Bowden also finished with a career-best 5K time, smashing her previous personal best by 30 seconds.
Meghan Yencer claimed 153rd place with a time of 22:30.6 and was followed closely by Grace Esterline, whose time of 22:38.9 earned her a 161st place finish. Sophomore Jayla Callens (196th/23:20.7), junior Monica Dougherty (205th/23:32.9) and freshman Madeleine Correll (222nd/24:12.1) rounded out the times for the FC women.
