CARMEL, Ind. – Franklin junior middle blocker Abby Sewell was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's (HCAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday (Oct. 7) afternoon, earning the award for the first time in her playing career.
The Franklin-native punished opposing defenses over three matches last week, racking up 40 kills over three matches while hitting an eye-popping .442 throughout the week. Her best performance came in the team's biggest match of the week, when she dropped 16 kills against just one error in Franklin's four-set win over Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, keeping the Grizzlies perfect in league play.
For the year, Sewell sits third on the Grizzlies with 195 kills and her .345 hitting percentage is tops among all FC players and second in the conference. Additionally, Sewell leads the team and ranks fourth in the HCAC with 53 blocks and her 27 aces are also good for a spot in the league's top-10.
Winners of five straight, Franklin looks to stay at the top of the league when they head to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday (Oct. 9) night. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
