CARMEL, Ind. – Franklin College sophomore libero Allison Thompson was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's (HCAC) Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career on Monday (Sept 16) afternoon.
The Louisville, Ky.-native was an anchor on the back line last week, helping Franklin to a 3-1 record. She averaged 6.00 digs per set over four matches, tops among all conference defensive players that qualified for the award.
She opened the week with a 17-dig performance in a three-set win over Berea last Tuesday and followed it up with 21 and 20-dig efforts in the first two games of the Hanover Invitational last weekend, helping Franklin to wins over Adrian and Capital. In the final match of the week, Thompson notched a career-high 32 digs against Trine in a five-set loss, marking the first time in her career she surpassed the 30-dig mark in a match.
Thompson becomes the first Grizzly to earn HCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors since her predecessor at the libero position, Libby Stahl, who collected the award on Sept. 24, 2018.
Franklin returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 17) night, when they hit the road to take on St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
