RECAP | Grizzlies Fall in Straight Sets to Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team hit the road for a Wednesday night Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown with one of the top teams in the league, the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers.

The Grizzlies (8-13, 1-3 HCAC) fell in straight sets to the Engineers (14-10, 4-1 HCAC). Sophomore Abigail Sewell recorded her first double-double of the year with 10 digs to go with a team-high 11 kills. Franklin hit .155 on the night but couldn't keep up with a Rose team that hit .252 on the night.

Game one saw the Grizzlies jump out to an early lead before being done in by a 12-0 Rose run that turned the opening set around. The Grizzlies played the Engineers even the rest of the set, but the gap proved too large to overcome in a 25-16 win.

Set two saw the two teams exchange several ties and leads with Franklin taking a 19-16 lead late. But the Grizzlies were done in by another surge from the Engineers, this time an 8-0 run that pushed game two to match point and eventually a 25-21 Rose win. The Engineers pulled away in the deciding match, taking the final game by a 25-18 score.

Jenna Spini finished second on the Grizzlies with six kills in the match while Kyndall Boyll's .300 hitting percentage led all Franklin attackers. Mackenzie Waldran handed out 27 assists on the night. On defense, Allison Thompson led the team with 18 digs followed by 13 digs from Libby Stahl. Timber Falin's three blocks led all net-front defenders.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday afternoon, hosting their second tri-match in as many weeks. The Grizzlies take on HCAC for Anderson at noon before closing out the weekend with a showdown against Alma at 4:00 p.m.
