GREENFIELD, Ind. – The Franklin volleyball opened a three-match non-conference road trip on Wednesday (Sept. 26) night, hitting the road for a meeting with the DePauw Tigers inside Neal Fieldhouse.
The Grizzlies (6-10) couldn't slow down a strong DePauw (8-7) offense, as the Tigers took the match in straight sets. Franklin hit .186 on the evening, getting 10 kills from Abigail Sewell and nine from Timber Falin in the middle. But the Tigers swung it at an eye-popping .303 clip, paving the way for victory.
With the first set knotted up at 13, the Tigers put separation between the two teams with an 8-1 run that led a 25-19 win and a one-set lead. The second game saw the FC attack put together their best set of the night with a .320 hitting percentage in the game. But the Tigers hit a whopping .520 in the same frame on their way to a 25-15 win.
Franklin jumped out to an early led in the third set, surging out to a 7-3 lead before the Tigers rattled off a 7-1 run to take their first lead of the set. The Grizzlies battled their hosts until the very end before succumbing to a 25-22 defeat to close things out.
Mackenzie Waldran finished with a double-double for the second straight game, serving up 23 assists and adding 10 digs on defense. Libby Stahl and Maria Hasnerl tied for the team lead with 11 digs each while Falin and Jenna Spini had a pair of blocks each.
Franklin gets back at it on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they head to Louisville, Ky. to take on Spalding University. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
