ANDERSON, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team hit the road on Saturday, heading north for a meeting with the Anderson University Ravens.
The Grizzlies (10-11, 0-5 HCAC) were unable to spoil the Ravens' (6-12, 1-4 HCAC) homecoming match, falling in three hard-fought sets.
Franklin jumped out to an early lead in set one, but that soon evaporated thanks to a 9-0 Anderson run that put the Ravens up 14-12 midway through the set. The Grizzlies would re-claim the lead later in the set, but were done in by a 7-0 Anderson run late that proved to be the difference in a 25-22 game one win.
Game two was another neck-and-neck battle early on, with the Grizzlies holding a 12-11 midway through the set. But the hosts would respond with another run that tilted the set in their favor, rattling off a 7-2 run that paved the way to a 25-20 Raven win.
The final set started with Anderson taking eight of the first nine points and never looking back. Franklin closed the gap to 20-18, but the Ravens closed things out by taking five of the final six points.
Senior Amanda Lelivelt led the Grizzlies with eight kills, hitting .294 on the afternoon and recording all three of the Grizzlies' solo blocks. Brooke Harvey and Jenna Spini weren't far behind, finishing with seven kills each. Franklin finished the day with a .187 attacking percentage.
Sparks finished with a team-high three service aces on the day. Anderson finished with 11 aces on the afternoon to just five for Franklin.
The Grizzlies return to action this coming Tuesday (Oct. 17) night, when they host Transylvania. First serve from the Spurlock Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
