Balanced Hitting Attack Leads Volleyball Past Anderson

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team had three players reach double figures in kills during a four-set triumph against Anderson University (20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-14) in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play during Homecoming on Saturday from the Spurlock Center.

Franklin (12-8, 2-2 HCAC) closed the second set on a 5-2 run to even the set. A kill by junior Brooke Harvey sealed the late surge.

The team battled back-and-forth during the third set before another late push from the Grizzlies. The hosts won consecutive points to extend its margin to four points, 22-18, following a kill from junior Amanda Lelivelt.

Harvey served three straight aces early in the fourth set as Franklin built a 10-4 advantage. A kill from Lelivelt increased the lead to 13-6 midway through the frame.

Lelivelt led the hitting attack with 14 kills on just two errors for a .522 hitting percentage in the victory. Harvey recorded 12 kills, while freshman Kennedy Surface rounded out the balanced effort with 10 kills.

The Grizzlies recorded 10 aces in the match led by Harvey and Lelivelt each with four aces.

Senior Ashley Bazier had a match-high 23 assists, while freshman Nico Morris had 17 assists. Bazier registered a team-high 15 digs defensively. Surface chipped in 13 digs, while senior Sarah Labra added 10 digs.

Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:30 p.m. when it travels to Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky for a conference match.
