Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team lost its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match of the season on Wednesday inside the Spurlock Center to Transylvania University.
The Grizzlies (15-10, 4-1 HCAC) won the opening set 25-16 before the visiting Pioneers earned victories in the next three sets. The loss ended the team's nine-match winning streak.
Franklin won the final eight points of the first set and posted a .458 hitting percentage in the frame.
Transylvania (14-5, 4-1 HCAC) evened the match with a 27-25 victory in the second set. The visitors won the third set by a 25-20 score to take a 2-1 set lead in the match. The Pioneers secured the victory with a 28-26 win in the fourth set.
Sophomore Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) led Franklin's offensive attack with 17 kills. Classmate Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) added 12 kills and seven solo blocks. Senior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) chipped in nine kills.
Junior Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 46 assists in the match.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, October 21, at 7 p.m. when it travels to Hanover College for an HCAC match.
