Volleyball Splits Two Matches to Conclude Play at Illinois Wesleyan Tournament

Bloomington, Ill. - Sophomore Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) earned a spot on the Illinois Wesleyan All-Tournament team as the Franklin College volleyball split two matches to conclude play in the tournament on Saturday.

The Grizzlies (6-9) defeated Aurora University in four sets (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26) before losing a hard-fought five-set match (25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 30-28, 16-14) to Augustana College. Franklin went 2-2 during the team's final tournament in the non-conference schedule.

Against Aurora, sophomore Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) set a career-high with 18 kills. She posted a .333 hitting percentage for the match with just three hitting errors.

Lelivelt tallied 15 kills and three blocks in the victory. Senior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) added seven kills and six blocks. Senior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) also recorded seven kills in the match.

Sophomore Darian Parke (Oakland City, Ind./Wood Memorial) had a career-high eight blocks in the win.

Junior Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 44 assists and two serving aces. She also tallied 24 digs in the match.

Senior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) led the defensive effort with 39 digs. Classmate Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) registered 17 digs. Sophomore Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) had 15 digs, while senior Hope Steel (New Palestine, Ind./Lutheran) chipped in 14 digs to round the team's balanced defensive effort.

In the Augustana match, Settle led the offensive attack with 16 kills. Harvey recorded 13 kills, while Lelivelt rounded three players with double-digit kills with 12 kills.

Bazier recorded a career-high with 49 kills. She also tallied 14 digs defensively.

Wieneke had a team-high 41 digs in the match. Brown added 19 digs, while Steel had 13 digs in the five-set match.

Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. when it hosts Spalding University from the Spurlock Center.
