Volleyball Heads West to Colorado College Classic This Weekend

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team heads west to participate in the Colorado College Classic with four matches from September 4-5 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Grizzlies open the weekend's action against the University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Friday, September 4, at 1 p.m., before battling the host school at 5 p.m. on the same night.

Then, on Saturday, September 5, the team will face Carleton College (Minnesota), at noon, and the University of Texas-Tyler, at 6 p.m.

Franklin opened the fall season with a hard-fought five-set loss at DePauw University on Tuesday night. Senior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the team with 11 kills, and classmate Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) added 10 kills and had a .333 hitting percentage in the match.

Sophomore Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) recorded a team-high four blocks at DePauw, and junior Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped distribute the Grizzlies' balanced offensive attack, with 26 assists.

Defensively, senior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) had a team-high 15 digs, while senior Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) added six digs in the season opener.
