Franklin, Ind. - Before heading west to play matches in the Colorado College Classic, the Franklin College volleyball team will open the fall season with a road contest at DePauw University on Tuesday, September 1, at 7 p.m., in Greencastle, Indiana.
The Grizzlies will then play four matches in Colorado on September 4-5.
Franklin is coming off a 2014 season in which won 17 matches, and advanced to the semifinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) tournament. The team was picked fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.
Senior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the team with 240 kills in 2014. She is one of four returning players to record 175 or more kills last season. Young served 14 aces and had 21 blocks on defense.
Classmate Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) tallied 215 kills and 79 blocks last season.
Sophomore Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) had 218 kills and 22 blocks during her first collegiate season. Classmate Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) was named to the HCAC's All-Freshman Team in 2014 after posting 175 kills and 71 blocks.
Junior Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 958 assists, and averaged 8.55 assists per set last fall. She also ranked second on the team with 354 digs.
Senior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) led last year's defensive effort, posting 463 digs. She also recorded 23 serving aces. Classmate Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) had a team-high 32 aces last season, and added 253 digs. Sophomore Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) registered 190 digs, while senior Hope Steel (New Palestine, Ind./Lutheran) rounded out the team's balanced defensive effort with 178 digs last season.
