Aurora, Ill. - The Franklin College volleyball team posted its ninth victory of the season in splitting a pair of matches at the Aurora Invitational on Saturday. The Grizzlies swept North Park University before losing a hard-fought 3-2 match to the University of Dubuque (Iowa).
Franklin (9-4) split four matches in the two-day tournament. The team opened Saturday by winning three competitive sets from the Vikings by 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 scores. Franklin then nearly completed a comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Dubuque (25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 15-13).
Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) had a career-best 14 kills against Dubuque. Freshman Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside-Brookfield) also recorded 14 kills in the five-set match. Freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) had a career-high 13 kills.
In the victory over North Park, Harvey had a game-high nine kills. Junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) added six kills.
Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped distribute the offensive attack with 27 assists. She tallied a career-high 48 assists against Dubuque.
Defensively, freshman Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) led the Grizzlies with 15 digs against Dubuque. She also had 15 digs in the victory over North Park. Young tallied 10 digs in each match.
Franklin returns to action on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Spalding University from the Spurlock Center. The match is the 2014 home opener. Live video of the match will be available.
