Volleyball Splits Matches to Begin Aurora Invitational on Friday

Aurora, Ill. - The Franklin College volleyball team split a pair of matches to open play in the Aurora Invitational on Friday. The Grizzlies stand 8-3 on the season and will play two matches on Saturday.

Franklin swept Beloit College (25-20, 25-16, 25-12) before losing to North Central College (Ill.) in three sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-21.

In the first match, junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) and freshman Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside-Brookfield) tied for team-high honors with seven kills. Junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) added six kills.

Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 27 assists.

Freshman Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) led the Grizzlies with 10 matches in the victory.

Against North Central, senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and Young led the team's offensive attack with each having five kills. Bazier tallied 17 assists. Young tied for team-high honors with eight digs. Labra also recorded eight digs.

Franklin concludes the invitational on Saturday, September 13 against North Park University at 11 a.m. The team also faces the University of Dubuque at 1 p.m.
