Volleyball Takes Winning Ways to This Weekend’s Aurora Invitational

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team puts a five-match winning streak on the line when it travels to the Aurora Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 12-13, in Aurora, Illinois.

The Grizzlies stand 7-2 on the season after a 3-0 road victory over Wilmington College (Ohio) on Wednesday.

Franklin begins the two-day event with matches on Friday against Beloit College (Wis.), at 4 p.m., and North Central College (Ill.), at 6 p.m. Then, the team returns on Saturday to battle North Park University (Ill.), at 10 a.m, and the University of Dubuque (Iowa), at noon.

This weekend's event marks the third consecutive road tournament to open the Grizzlies' 2014 season. The first home match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16 against Spalding University, at 7 p.m. in the Spurlock Center.

Junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) leads Franklin's offensive attack with 68 kills and a .295 hitting percentage. She also tops on the team with 19 blocks.

Classmate Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) has tallied 64 kills, while freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) ranks third on the team with 62 kills. Senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) rounds out the team's balanced attack with 59 kills and a .231 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) has set up the team's winning ways with 262 assists and seven serving aces.

Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) leads the Grizzlies with 120 digs and is averaging 4.44 digs per set on the season. She has compiled 10 aces. Classmate Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) has provided 89 digs and nine serving aces. Brown had five kills in Wednesday night's victory at Wilmington.
