INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Franklin College track and field teams opened the indoor season on Friday night, taking part in the UIndy Winter Break Meet, held inside the Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC) on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.
No team score was kept during the event, as Franklin brought home a slew of top-10 finishes against competition from NCAA Division III, III and the NAIA.
The Grizzlies brought home a pair of runner-up finishes, one coming in the field and the other coming on the track. Junior Heath Deugan collected a second-place finish in the men's 5K race, clocking in with a time of 16:43.90.
Fellow junior Kelsey Bowling grabbed a second-place finish in the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.08m. Bowling would add a ninth-place finish in the long jump (4.90m) and a 10th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (10.06).
Bowling was one of two hurdlers to crack the top-10 on Friday, with sophomore Matt Stienke taking ninth place with a time of 9.09 seconds.
