DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Franklin women's tennis team resumed Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon, taking on the Defiance Yellow Jackets.
The Grizzlies (2-2, 2-0 HCAC) remained perfect in conference play, downing the Yellow Jackets (2-5, 1-3 HCAC) 9-0. In doubles competition, Franklin's top tandem of Maddie Bright and Sydney Utterback rolled to an 8-4 win, a score matched by the team's second pairing of Madison Pifer and Kinley Harmon. Addie Rund and Emma Foley earned a win by default, spotting the Grizzlies a three-point lead heading into singles play.
Franklin took all five singles matches in straight sets while earning a point by default at the No. 6 spot. Bright was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at the top of the lineup with Foley following her and winning 6-3, 6-4 at the second position. Alayna Munson was a 6-1, 6-0 winner as the No. 3 player, closing out victory for the Grizzlies. Rund and Sydney Logsdon notched identical 6-2, 6-1 wins from the four and five positions.
The Grizzlies will turn right around and play on Sunday (Sept. 22), hosting Indiana-Kokomo at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
