FRANKLIN, Ind. – In their second match of the fall, the Franklin women's tennis team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon, hosting Mount St. Joseph at the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.

The Grizzlies (1-1, 1-0 HCAC) bounced back from a season-opening loss, rolling to a 7-2 win over the Lions (2-1, 0-1 HCAC).

As is customary, the two teams opened things up with doubles competition. Franklin got on the board thanks to an impressive 8-2 win from their top doubles tandem of Maddie Bright and Sydney Utterback. Not long after, the Grizzlies collected their second point of the afternoon when Emma Foley and Addie Rund matched their teammates with an 8-2 win of their own from the No. 3 doubles spot.

Bright earned her second point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-4 win from the No. 1 singles spot. Utterback joined in on the fun with a 6-4, 7-5 win from the second singles spot, putting Franklin within a point of victory. Sophomore Alayna Munson captured the fifth and deciding point at the No. 4 spot, rallying to win 7-5, 6-0.

Rund became the third Grizzly to earn multiple points on the day with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the fifth position. Sydney Logsdon closed out singles play with a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-8) victory from the sixth position in the Franklin lineup.

The Grizzlies step back out of conference play on Sunday (Sept. 15) afternoon, when they welcome Indiana-Southeast to town for their second match in a 24-hour period. First serve is set for noon.
