DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Franklin College women's tennis team continued their torrid start to the fall season, blowing past Defiance College in the team's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opener.
The Grizzlies moved to a perfect 5-0 in dual match play with a 9-0 win over the Yellow Jackets. Franklin has now dropped just three points over their last four matches.
FC wasted no time picking up all three points in doubles play, dropping just one set along the way. Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose costed to an 8-0 win as the top tandem, Holyn Eldgridge and Alexa Schofner were 8-1 winners at the No. 2 spot while Megan Battles and Lilly Bushong were 8-0 winners to close out doubles.
Singles play brought more of the same, as each Grizzly won their match in straight sets. Dringenburg was a 6-2, 6-1 winner as the top singles player, while Eldridge picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win in the two-spot.
Rose was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the No. 3 spot. Schofner matched Eldridge's score with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles play. Megan Battles was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at the five-spot while Bushong closed things out with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
