Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team won its 10th match of the season in a 9-0 victory over Central State University (Ohio) on Wednesday from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
Franklin (10-5) did not drop a game in earning straight-set victories on the first four singles courts. Sophomore Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) led the singles effort at the No. 1 position. Sanders, the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's Most Valuable Player, won her 11th match this season.
Sophomore Emily Roberts (Franklin, Ind./Edinburgh) picked up her ninth singles triumph on the second court. Sophomore Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County), freshman Kayla Walker (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and sophomore Shawnee Bayes (Lexington, Ind./Austin) rounded out the singles winners at the No. 3-5 singles positions.
In doubles, sophomore Chelsea Platt (Shelbyville, Ind./Morristown) and freshman Alison Meyer (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) won on the No. 2 court by an 8-0 score. Freshman Emily Helvie (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) teamed with junior Bethany Harris (Avon, Ind./Avon) at No. 1 doubles.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 12 at noon when it hosts Anderson University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
