FRANKLIN, Ind. – Five members of the Franklin women's swimming and diving team are headed to the NCAA Division III National Championships in a few weeks, with the list of national qualifiers being announced on Monday (Mar. 4) afternoon.
Sophomores Brynna Sentel, Courtnee Coffman, Jessica Halsmer, Ashley Snoke and Jacqueline Richard will compete against the nation's best when the national championships take place from Mar. 20-23 in Greensboro, N.C. The quintet qualified for eight individual races and five relays, and will represent the program in 13 different events.
Sentel will take place in the most individual events after qualifying in three events over the course of the year. The Sullivan, Ill.-native enters the 500 freestyle with the seventh-fastest time in the nation at 4:54.99. She will also take part in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Coffman hit qualifying marks in a pair of sprint events. The New Palestine, Ind.-native hit national times in both the 50 freestyle (23.72) and the 100 freestyle (51.60). Halsmer is also headed east to compete in a pair of events after hitting qualifying times in both the 200 backtstroke (2:02.83) and the 100 backstroke (58.00). Snoke will take part in the 100 breaststroke, entering the event with a season-best time of 1:04.62. Richard was a major part in helping the Grizzlies hit qualifying times in the relays and will compete there in North Carolina.
The Grizzlies earned their highest relay seed in the 200 medley relay, and will enter the event with the 11th-best time in the country as 1:43.97, set at the HCAC Championships. Franklin will also compete in the 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay and the 800 free relay.
Competition on day one of the National Championship is set for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center. The entire list of qualifiers can be found at the top of the page.
