Women’s Swimming Team Makes Waves at Championships

FRANKLIN, Ind. (Feb. 10, 2017) – The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team leads the 11-team field after Day 2 of the Liberal Arts Championships at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.

After the first round of finals, the Grizzlies picked up victories in four events, including the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.

Members of the 200 freestyle relay were junior Karlee Demsey, junior Amy McCormick, senior Haley Blaich and senior Regina Solik. Members of the 400 medley relay were sophomore Mackenzie Dwyer, junior Kaitlin Mans, Demsey and Solik.

Franklin's individual winners were Solik, a provisional national qualifier, in the 50 freestyle and Dwyer in the 200 IM. Solik's time of 23.58 was a school- and Liberal Arts Championship-record.

The Grizzlies also received strong individual performances from McCormick, who was third in the 500 freestyle; from Blaich, who was fourth in the 50 freestyle; from Mans, who was eighth in the 200 IM; and from senior Sarah Taylor, who was eighth in the 50 freestyle.

Franklin's team score after Thursday's Day 2 of the four-day event was 193, followed by Luther College (185), Coe College (153), Illinois Tech (148), University of Minnesota Morris (135), Morningside College (92), Loras (86), Mills College (48), Simpson College (48), Principia College (443) and Nebraska Wesleyan University (37).
