Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the home dual meet season when they host Manchester University on Saturday, October 29 at 1 p.m. from Franklin Community Middle School.
The meet marks the first dual contest of the season after last Saturday's meet at Illinois Institute of Technology meet was cancelled.
Franklin's women's swimming and diving team recorded a second-place finish at the Indiana Division III Invitational on October 15. The Grizzlies are ranked 27th in this week's CollegeSwimming.com Division III poll.
Junior Karlee Demsey took runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly event during the Indiana Division III Invitational.
Freshman Cady Mehringer currently has posted the 23rd fastest time in the 200-ayrd individual medley (2:15.11). Junior Kaitlin Mans ranks 26th nationally in the 200-yard breaststroke event (1:09.84). Junior Amy McCormick stands 41st nationally in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.3) to round out the team's top performers in the opening month of the season.
On the men's side, the Grizzlies are ranked No. 15 by CollegeSwimming.com and has reached as high as No. 8 following the Indiana Division III Invitational.
Senior Artur Schneider has posted the nation's fifth fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke (52.14 seconds), eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (47.21 seconds), and 12th in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.19).
Freshman James Hone is tied for 31st nationally in the 100-yard butterfly (53.33 seconds). He also stands 45th best in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.88) and is 47th nationally in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.29).
Sophomore Sam Hall also enters Saturday's meet with a top-50 time nationally, standing 35th in the 100-yard backstroke (53.97 seconds).
