Women’s Swimming Places Second at Indiana DIII Invite


Crawfordsville, Ind. - The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team won one event and placed second in four additional races during a second-place finish at the 2016 Indiana Division III Invitational on Saturday from Wabash College.

The Grizzlies tallied 621 points to place second among five teams.

Freshman Cady Mehringer recorded the team's only event victories during the season-opening meet. She won the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.11). Mehringer placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.32).

Junior Karlee Demsey took runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.97) to add 17 points to the team score. Junior Kaitlin Mans registered a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.84).

Franklin's 400-yard freestyle relay team of seniors Regina Solik, Sarah Taylor, and Amy McCormick and Demsey added 34 points to the team score with a second-place finish (3:46.10).

The 200-yard freestyle relay of seniors Haley Blaich, Lauren McCool, and Payton Thomas joined Taylor in taking runner-up honors (1:45.45).

The Indiana Division III Invitational featured DePauw University, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Manchester University, and Anderson University.

Franklin begins its dual meet season when it travels to Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m.
