Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams are preparing to open the 2016-17 season at the Indiana Division III Championships at Wabash College on Saturday, October 15 at 10 a.m. from Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The men's team won its third consecutive Liberal Arts Championship in 2016. Meanwhile, the women's team placed second at the meet.
Senior Artur Schneider has competed at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships in 2015 and 2016.
Seniors Nick Allen, Xander Garcia, Andrew Spaulding, Bailey Willoughby, Mitch Western, and Matt Western have each played key roles on relay and multiple events throughout their collegiate careers.
Juniors Cameron Cary, Zach Daily and Sam Hall contributed points in multiple events last winter.
Sophomore Will Combs advanced to the 2016 NCAA Division III Diving Regional – becoming the first diver in program history to participate in the postseason event.
On the women's side, the Grizzlies have won four consecutive Heartland Conference Invitational titles. The team graduated one senior from last season's squad.
Senior Haley Blaich, Carly Fernandes, Lauren McCool, Laura Olivo, Regina Solik, Sarah Taylor, Payton Thomas, and Taylor Tichenor have been key contributors for several seasons. The eight seniors join juniors Karlee Demsey, Katie Dodd, Kaitlin Mans, and Amy McCormick in leading the Grizzlies in 2016-17.
The Indiana Division III Championships is a single-day competition featuring six men's teams and five women's teams.
Franklin's first dual meet is set on Saturday, October 22 against Illinois Institute of Technology.
