Women’s Swimming and Diving Battles Illinois Wesleyan to Tie on Senior Day

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team battled Illinois Wesleyan University to a 111-111 tie during Saturday's Senior Day meet from Franklin Community Middle School.

Sophomores Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) and Kaitlin Mans (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) earned swimming event victories to lead the Grizzlies. Freshman Bri Gunning (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) swept both diving competitions, highlighted by a 188.18 score in the 1-meter event.

Mans won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.6), while participating on the runner-up 200-yard medley relay team (1:41.81). Senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville), junior Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade), and Demsey were also members of the medley relay team.

Demsey touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.45).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Haley Blaich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), Sarah Taylor (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central), sophomore Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central), and Solik placed second in the event (1:42.19).

The women's swimming and diving program honored the four-year contributions of Conrad during the team's final home meet of the 2015-16 season.

Franklin returns to action when it competes in the Liberal Arts Championships from February 10-13 at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois.
