Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team won 13 events to take top honors at the 2016 Heartland Invitational on Saturday at Franklin Community High School.
The Grizzlies totaled 360 points, while Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology recorded 199 points to take runner-up honors. Manchester University rounded out the team standings with 43 points.
Franklin swept both relay events and tally 11 individual race triumphs. The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville), junior Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade), and sophomores Kaitlin Mans (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) and Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) won the race (1:54.13).
Junior Sarah Taylor (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) joined classmates Lauren McCool (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) and Haley Blaich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and sophomore Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:53.12).
McCormick earned an event win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.39). She later added a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.80). McCormick rounded out her strong meet with a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.49).
Mans picked up a three-second triumph in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.25). She also took top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:36.34). Mans recorded her third win of the meet in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.46).
Demsey edged Solik in the 100-yard freestyle race (56.18 seconds). Demsey was a multiple-event winner by touching the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.25).
Solik added nine points to the team score with a win in the 50-yard freestyle (25.10 seconds). McCool had a dominating 10-second triumph in the 400-yard individual medley (5:03.67).
Junior Ellen Grogg (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) touched the wall first to pick up a 14-second victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:36.40).
In diving, freshman Bri Gunning (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) had a runner-up finish in the 3-meter competition with 195.95 points.
Franklin returns to action on Friday, January 29, at 6 p.m. when it travels to Rose-Hulman for a dual meet. The Grizzlies will host Illinois Wesleyan University for Senior Day on Saturday, January 30, at 1 p.m. from Franklin Community Middle School.
