Women’s Swimming and Diving Takes Top Honors at Colonel Classic


Danville, Ky. - Behind nine event victories, the Franklin College women's swimming and diving team placed first in the Colonel Classic at Centre College.

The first place honor for Franklin's men's and women's swimming and diving teams mark the first time they have won the same invitational.

The Grizzlies recorded 579 points during the two-day event. Centre placed second on the women's side with 419 points.

Franklin won all five relay races and added four individual event triumphs.

Sophomore Kaitlin Mans (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke for the team's first individual victory (1:11.11).

Sophomore Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) picked an event victory in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.94).

Sophomore Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) won the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:49.94), edging freshman Mackenzie Dwyer (Longmont, Colo./Skyline). Dwyer later added an event win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.38).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) and Haley Blaich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian), Demsey, and McCormick took top honors (1:42.48).

Senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville), Mans, Demsey, and Solik were victorious in the 400-yard medley relay (4:12.16). They also won the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.09).

Franklin also recorded relay victorious in the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relay races.

Franklin returns to action on Friday, January 15, at 6:30 p.m. when it hosts DePauw University in a dual meet at Franklin Community High School.
