Lexington, Ky. - The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team broke eight school records at the Transylvania Invitational over the weekend. The Grizzlies placed fourth in their first invitational of the season.
The team recorded 468 points during the two days of competition.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Haley Blaich (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) and sophomores Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) and Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) started the meet with a school record (1:38.19) during a second-place finish.
McCormick broke the school record in winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.22). She won the 1,650-yard freestyle by over 11 seconds (17:55.71). McCormick also posted a school record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.86).
Freshman Mackenzie Dwyer (Longmont, Colo./Skyline) also established a new top time in program history in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.24) to place third in the event. Senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) had a fifth-place finish in the event (2:11.25).
Solik posted a new program-best mark with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (53.65 seconds). She rounded out her strong performance with a new school record in the 50-yard freestyle (24.61 seconds).
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Demsey, Blaich, Solik, and McCormick beat the previous program mark by three seconds to finish second in the meet (3:35.45).
Franklin returns to action at the Colonel Classic at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky from January 8-9, 2016.
