Women’s Swimming and Diving Earns Road Win over Transylvania


Lexington, Ky. - The Franklin College women's swimming and diving team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 173-119 road victory over Transylvania University on Friday evening. The Grizzlies won nine of the 16 events.

Junior Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) led the effort with event victories in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. She won the shorter race (25.81 seconds) before touching the wall first in the longer event (56.67 seconds).

Freshman Mackenzie Dwyer (Longmont, Colo./Skyline) earned a 28-second win in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:17.09).

Sophomore Kaitlin Mans (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) picked up a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.40).

Classmate Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville) touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.86). Sophomore Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) recorded a 20-second triumph in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.19).

The 200-yard medley relay team of senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville), Demsey, Mans, and Solik were victorious by two seconds (1:54.41).

The Grizzlies also won the 200-yard freestyle relay to round out the meet victors (1:45.33). Juniors Lauren McCool (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) and Sarah Taylor (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) joined Demsey and McCormick on the winning relay.

Franklin returns to action when it hosts Coe College (Iowa) and Millikin University (Illinois) in a triangular meet on Saturday, November 14, at 2 p.m. from Franklin Community Middle School.
