Women’s Swimming and Diving Earns Dominating Dual Triumph over Manchester


North Manchester, Ind. - Winning all 14 swimming events helped propel the Franklin College women's swimming and diving team to a 220-60 victory over Manchester University on Friday.

The Grizzlies swept the maximum allowable points in 13 of the 14 events by taking the top three finishes in a race.

Junior Lauren McCool (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) recorded three individual event victories, while also swimming the first leg on the victorious 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:45.57).

McCool won the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.84) before touching the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.16). She also place first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.59).

Joining McCool on the 200-yard freestyle relay team were junior Sarah Taylor (Greenville, Ind./Floyd Central) and sophomores Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) and Karlee Demsey (Jeffersonville, Ind./Jeffersonville).

Demsey also a multiple event winner in the 50-yard backstroke (29.11 seconds) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.31).

Junior Regina Solik (Clayton, Ind./Cascade) placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.18 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (57.29 seconds) races.

McCormick recorded an individual victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:56.61). Junior Payton Thomas (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) won the 50-yard freestyle (27.68 seconds) to add nine points to the team score.

Senior Shelby Conrad (Crawfordsville, Ind./Crawfordsville) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.38). Junior Laura Olivo (Goshen, Ind./Goshen) placed first in the 50-yard butterfly (29.72 seconds). Sophomore Kaitlin Mans (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) rounded out the event winners in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12).

The Grizzlies also won the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay events.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, November 7, at 7 p.m. when it travels to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky.
