Swimmer Amy McCormick Earns Liberal Arts Conference Honor

Franklin, Ind. - Opening the season with a strong performance has earned Franklin College sophomore swimmer Amy McCormick (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) weekly recognition from the Liberal Arts Conference.

McCormick won two events and swam the fastest 100-yard freestyle split in Franklin's pool to earn the Women's Swimmer of the Week honor. She touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.9) before winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.8).

Her strong performance helped the Grizzlies defeat Illinois College and Illinois Institute of Technology in the 2015-16 season opening meet.

The Liberal Arts Championships is a collection of approximately 13 Midwest colleges or universities that compete in a year-end swimming and diving meet. Franklin College participates in the Liberal Arts Championships because swimming and diving are not official sports programs within the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Liberal Arts Championships provide the Grizzlies with a season-ending championship event, and an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA national championships.

Franklin's women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Friday, October 30, at 6 p.m. when it travels to Manchester University for a dual meet.
