DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Franklin College women's soccer team extender their win streak to four games and opened up Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a dominating 7-1 road win against Defiance College on Saturday.

The star of the game was senior midfielder Clare Lenart, as the Seymour, Ind.-native put on a show on Saturday. Lenart scored five times and launched nine shots, both career-highs. Maddie Fleet and Hannah McIntosh added goals as Franklin moved to 5-3 on the year.

Possession changed hands often and play was steady in the early going. Chances favored the Grizzlies, but the game remained scoreless as play entered the final third of the half.

Lenart began her assault on the Defiance defense in the 33rd minute, hammering home a Kelsey Brunsman pass for her second goal of the year and ice-breaker in the game. That stood as the lone goal of the first half as FC took a one-goal lead into the break.

Franklin turned up the heat in the second half with Lenart and McIntosh scoring less than five minutes into the second half to stretch the lead. Defiance would cut the lead to two in the 55th minute, but the Grizzlies slammed the door shut on any comeback hopes. Lenart added goals in the 72nd, 84th and 90th minutes while Fleet potted her team-leading sixth of the year in the 86th minute to close out the scoring.

Shots were 31-10 in Franklin's favor with the Grizzlies pumping a season-high 22 shots on target. Lexi Short earned the win after stopping four Defiance shots, running her record to 5-3 on the year.

Next up for the Grizzlies is a big one as they hit the road for a showdown at co-conference favorites Hanover on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The Grizzlies and Panthers will get underway at 5:00 p.m.
