GAMBIER, Ohio – The Franklin College women's soccer team will carry a wave of momentum into conference play after picking up a 1-0 win over Kenyon College on Tuesday afternoon.

Maddie Fleet scored for the third consecutive match and Lexi Short turned aside 10 shots in goal as the Grizzlies recorded their second consecutive clean sheet with the win. It was the third consecutive win for the Grizzlies, who are over .500 for the first time in 2017.

Franklin controlled the play in the very early going with Fleet and Clare Lenart just missing chances to put Franklin in front in the opening six minutes. The two sides would trade chances throughout the remainder of the first half before heading into the intermission locked in a scoreless tie.

When the second half began, the field was tilted in favor of the home side. Kenyon put four shots on goal in the opening 16 minutes of the final 45, but each was turned aside by the Grizzlies' all-conference goalkeeper.

Short's brilliance in the Franklin end proved to be the jolt the offense needed. In the 63rd minute, Fleet broke into the Kenyon box, streaking down the left and firing a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net for her fifth tally of the year.

Down by a goal, the Kenyon offense continued its onslaught, generating eight shot attempts the rest of the way. But only two of those were on target with Short and Jackie List making one save each to close out the win and earn their second consecutive tandem clean sheet.

Kenyon finished the match with a 25-12 advantage in shot attempts and an 11-3 edge in shots on target. Fleet six shot attempts and two shots on goal led all Franklin attackers.

Franklin will look to keep their winning ways intact this Saturday, when they travel to Defiance, Ohio for their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opener against Defiance College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
