Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team took over first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) behind a 1-0 victory over regionally ranked Hanover College on Tuesday evening from Faught Stadium.
Bunn dribbled down the right side before sending the ball into the six-yard box. Lowe was in position to score into the wide open net.
Franklin (9-2-3, 5-0-1 HCAC) is unbeaten over its last 10 matches. Hanover entered the match ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes region and was the defending HCAC regular season and tournament champions.
The win marks the highest ranked opponent Franklin has defeated in program history. The team defeated regionally ranked Wilmington College in 2013 for its first triumph over a ranked opponent.
The Panthers (11-4, 5-1 HCAC) held a 26-9 shot edge in the match, but the shots on goal were similar. Hanover attempted 10 shots on target compared to seven for the Grizzlies.
Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) made nine saves in posting the shutout. She is 6-0-3 in goal for Franklin.
Bunn led Franklin's nine-shot attack with three shots. Senior Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./Washington) and Lowe each attempted two shots.
