Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team matched a season high scoring performance in a 4-0 home Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over Defiance College on Saturday from Faught Stadium.
Franklin (7-2-2, 3-0 HCAC) remains undefeated in league play and is tied with Hanover College for first place following the first three league matches. The Grizzlies are unbeaten over their last seven matches.
The hosts got on the scoreboard in the 30th minute on a goal from junior Marci Black (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). She chipped the ball over an outstretched Defiance goalkeeper. Three minutes later freshman Clare Lenart (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) put the Grizzlies ahead 2-0 on a goal from classmate Masey Bunn (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg).
In the second half, freshman Haley Lowe (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) set up classmate HanHaHanah McIntosh (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) for a goal five minutes into the period.
Later, freshman Jasmine Hunt (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) found the back of the net in the 64th minute to give Franklin a 4-0 lead. Black set up the scoring chance to cap her strong performance.
Franklin attempted 12 shots in the match, including nine shots on goal. The defense did not allow the visiting Yellow Jacket to attempt one shot throughout the 90 minutes.
Freshman goalkeeper Jessica Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) picked up the victory. Freshman Mallory Guess (Williamsburg, Ohio/Williamsburg) helped preserve the shutout by playing the final 31 minutes in goal.
Senior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg), McIntosh, and Black each led the team with two shots.
Franklin returns to action on Tuesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from Faught Stadium. Live statistics and video of the match will be available.
