Second-Half Rally Lifts Women’s Soccer Past Spalding

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored four times in the second half to rally past Spalding University 5-3 in the team's final home non-conference match on Wednesday evening from Faught Stadium.

Franklin (3-2-2) trailed 3-1 at intermission after Spalding (2-5) scored three times in the middle stages of the first half. The Grizzlies got an early goal from freshman Clare Lenart (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) in the fourth minute of the match.

Spalding's Baylee Tabler scored the first of her two goals in the 15th minute to square the match. She put the Eagles ahead 2-1 on the goal six minutes later. Tabler assisted on Dee Dee Sliter's goal in the 33rd minute to put the visitors ahead 3-1.

However, the hosts found the back of the net four times over the final 45 minutes to pick up the victory. Senior Danielle Owens (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) started the scoring outburst with her second goal on the season off a corner kick in the 50th minute. One minute later, Owens tied the contest at 3-3 after senior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) set up the goal.

In the 52nd minute, freshman Haley Lowe (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) put Franklin ahead with her third goal of the season. The Grizzlies added an insurance goal in the 74th minute from freshman Masey Bunn (Speedway, Ind./Brownsburg) on an assist from senior Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./Washington).

Senior goalkeeper Christa Hendrickson (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) got the win and did not allow a goal after entering the match at the start of the second half. The Grizzlies did not allow a shot in the second half.

Overall, Franklin held a 23-5 shot advantage and attempted 12 shots during the second-half rally. Lenart led the team with five shots. Dragstrem added four shots, while freshmen Hannah McIntosh (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Lowe each had three shots in the victory.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, September 27 at 12:30 p.m. when it travels to Millikin University (Ill.). The match will be the team's non-conference finale. Live statistics and video of the match will be available on
