Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored three second-half goals, but could not find the equalizer in the closing minutes in Friday's 4-3 season-opening loss to Trine University at Faught Stadium. The match was part of the program's inaugural Franklin Invitational Soccer Tournament.
Trine took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick goal by Skyler Reed in the 25th minute. The hosts squared the match in the 75th minute as freshman Jessica Silva (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) found the back of the net. She made a long run down the left side of the 18-yard box and beat Trine's goalkeeper inside the right post.
Moments later Trine was awarded another penalty kick and Reed successfully converted the opportunity to give the Thunder a 2-1 advantage.

However, Franklin battled back as freshman Masey Bunn (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) converted a scoring opportunity from the right side of the 18-yard box in the 82nd minute. The score was set up by a pass from senior Rachel Lucas (Avon, Ind./Avon) to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Franklin cut the margin to one goal, 4-3, on a successful penalty kick by senior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) with less than three minutes remaining.
