LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Franklin College women's lacrosse team wrapped up a brief two-game road swing on Saturday (Apr. 13) afternoon, taking on one of the top squads in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) in the Transylvania Pioneers.
The Grizzlies (0-6, 0-3 HCLC) fell victim to a powerful Pioneer (10-4, 3-0 HCLC) attack, as Transylvania remained perfect in league play following a 24-0 win.
The opening goal came less than five minutes in and the Pioneers kept adding to their lead. Transylvania potted 12 goals in the opening half on 23 shots on goal, with their lead hitting double figures late in the first half. Courtney Jones turned aside 11 shots in the opening 30 minutes, finishing the afternoon with 12 saves total.
Senior Brooke Hughes scooped up a team-high three ground balls and was joined in that category by Kara Hawkins. Abbey Voss and Haley Ash both collected draw controls with Ash extending her team lead in draw controls to 16 on the year.
Franklin is back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 17) night, hosting Thomas More College in the first of two straight games at Faught Stadium. The opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
