RECAP | Grizzlies Drop Saturday Meeting to St. Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. – The Franklin College women's lacrosse team opened a two-game weekend road trip in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, taking on St. Vincent College in an Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) meeting.

The Grizzlies (3-5, 3-4 ORLC) battled the Bearcats (8-2, 6-1 ORLC) to a stand-still early on, but the hosts would use a big first-half run to put some distance between the two teams. The Grizzlies would battle one of the top teams in the conference evenly in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a double-digit deficit in a 22-13 defeat.

Jess Silva topped the Grizzlies with six goals on the afternoon. Abby Stayer and Haley Ash would pot two goals each, with Ash recording her first career multi-goal game.

Silva opened the scoring just 2:38 into the game and added a second with 22:20 to go in the opening half to even things up at 2-2. But the next 17 minutes of game play saw the Bearcats outscore the Grizzlies 10-2 to take command of the game. Silva added a pair of goals and Ash tallied her second of the game over the final four minutes of the half, cutting the St. Vincent lead to 15-7 at the break.

Morgan McIntosh opened the second half scoring with a free position shot, but four straight Bearcat goals would follow to stretch the lead to double figures. Franklin responded with a 4-1 run, getting two goals from Silva, one from Stayer and one from Shelbi Hunter. Abbey Voss added the Grizzlies' final goal of the game in the waning moments.

Shots were 45-24 in favor of St. Vincent with Silva leading all Grizzly attackers with eight shot attempts. McIntosh led the Grizzlies with six ground balls while Stayer and Silva scooped up four ground balls each. Stayer topped the Grizzlies with six draw controls, trailed by four controls each from Silva and Haley Lowe. Courtney Jones (3-3) made 10 stops in net for the Grizzlies.

Franklin gets right back at it on Sunday (Apr. 15) afternoon, taking on Chatham University. Start time from Pittsburgh, Pa. is set for noon.
