CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Franklin College women's lacrosse team used a fast start to get back in the win column on Wednesday (Apr. 4) afternoon, picking up a 19-2 win over Thomas More College.
The Grizzlies (2-3, 2-2 ORLC) pumped home four goals in the opening five minutes to set the tone for the rest of the game. Five different Franklin attackers recorded multi-goal games, led by five goals from senior Abby Stayer. Jess Silva added four goals, Brooke Hughes recorded her first hat trick of the year while Morgan McIntosh and Abbey Voss potted two goals each.
Stayer got the Grizzlies off to a fast start, netting the first goal of the game just 29 seconds in. Thomas More responded with the tying marker three minutes later, but Stayer would respond with three goals over a 2:18 span to stretch the lead to 4-1. The Grizzlies would dominate play the rest of the first half, scoring 11 straight goals to close out the opening 30 minutes and take a 12-1 lead into the break.
Franklin picked up right where they left off in the second half when Silva potted an unassisted tally just 27 seconds into the period. Following the Saints' second goal of the day, Franklin closed things out with tallies from Hughes, Voss, Silva, Sam Collier and Haley Ash before the final horn.
Shots were 25-4 in favor of the Grizzlies, with Stayer and Silva leading all players with seven shots each. McIntosh set a new career-high with five assists while Silva added helpers on three FC goals.
In goal, Courtney Jones (2-1) finished with a pair of saves to earn the win. Stayer led Franklin with six draw controls, followed by five each from McIntosh and Silva.
Franklin returns to action at home on Saturday (Apr. 7), when they welcome Washington & Jefferson to Faught Stadium for another ORLC showdown. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
