FRANKLIN, Ind. (Feb. 20, 2017) – Coming off a thrilling home win in Saturday's regular-season finale, the Franklin College women's basketball team rides a wave of momentum into the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Winners of six of their past eight games, the fifth-seeded Grizzlies play Tuesday night at No. 4 seed Hanover College. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m.
Franklin and Hanover split their two-game regular-season series. The Grizzlies won a 70-63 overtime thriller against the visiting Panthers on Feb. 8. Hanover won at home 67-46 on Jan. 18.
On Saturday, Franklin closed the regular-season with a 57-55 win against Anderson on Senior Day. The Grizzlies rallied from a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit to secure the win and take momentum into the postseason.
Franklin is 13-11 overall and 11-7 in the HCAC.
Balance has keyed Franklin all season. Senior forward Sarah Taylor averages 7.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Senior forward Emily Alfrey averages 6.8 ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 4.3 per game. And senior guard Mandy Fisher averages 6.6 ppg and 3.2 rpg.
Hanover, meanwhile, is 13-2 overall and 11-7 in the HCAC. The Panthers also feature a balanced offense, led by junior Allison Nash and freshmen Alexis Nall and Maleha Motter. Nash averages 10.9 ppg. Nall and Motter average 8.4 ppg and 8.8 ppg, respectively.
Tonight's winner advances to Friday's 6 p.m. semifinal at No. 1 seed Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
