Grizzlies Fall to Transy Despite Second Half Comeback

LEXINGTON, KY (February 15, 2017) - Franklin College women's basketball was defeated 67-64 by Transylvania University Wednesday night after a late comeback effort.

Franklin trailed by as many as 14 points early in the game and went into the half still fighting a double digit deficit. The Grizzlies chipped away at Transy's lead after the break and a field goal by Mandy Fisher put Franklin ahead 64-63 with 41 seconds left to play. The Pioneers regained the lead with made free throws in the last minute of the game and held on to earn the win.

The Grizzlies were led by Sarah Taylor with a game-high and personal best for the season 19 points, shooting 8-14 from the field. Mandy Fisher recorded 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists for Franklin respectively. 

Transylvania finished the night with four players scoring in double figures. Rachel Cox led the efforts with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Celia Kline and Kristen Hayes each recorded 13 points for the Pioneers, while Taylor Jackson chipped in 12. 

The Grizzlies clenched a berth to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and currently are tied in the standings with Defiance College at 10-7. Franklin will return to the Spurlock Center for Senior Day Saturday when they face Anderson College at 1:00 pm.
