FRANKLIN, IND. (February 8, 2017) – Franklin College women's basketball defeated Hanover College 70-63 in an overtime finish inside the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies upset Hanover College in a fourth quarter comeback in the last minute of the game that led to an overtime victory. A strong defensive effort gave Franklin the edge as they forced the Panthers into 30 turnovers compared to their 16 on the night. The two teams went back and forth all night which led to overtime tied at 57 apiece. Junior Riley Achenbach hit a three pointer with three minutes left in overtime to give the Grizzlies the momentum to pull away with the win.
Leading the way offensively for Franklin were Mandy Fisher with 13 points and Riley Achenbach with 12 points to finish the game. Fisher also recorded 8 rebounds on the night. Sarah Taylor tallied 10 points while Emily Alfrey was right behind with 9. Alfrey also contributed an impressive 6 steals for the Grizzlies.
Hanover struggled to handle Franklin's ball pressure being forced into 30 turnovers which made the difference in the end. Maleha Motter finished with a game-high 14 points and 12 rebounds. Claire Cromer (11) and Katie Hartman (10) also recorded double digit scoring efforts for the Panthers.
Women's basketball travels to Mount Saint Joseph Saturday for a men's and women's doubleheader starting with the men tipping off at 2 pm.
