FRANKLIN, IND. – (February 4, 2017) – Franklin College women's basketball defeated Defiance College 55-48 Saturday inside the Spurlock Center.
After a tough loss at home Wednesday night, the Grizzlies recovered with a win against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance. Franklin was able to improve their offensive productivity and limit their turnovers to earn the victory Saturday afternoon.
Three Grizzlies finished the day with double figure scoring efforts. Leading the way, each with 12 points, were senior Emily Alfrey and junior Kelsey Smith. Alfrey also added 4 rebounds on the game. Senior Lauren DeSutter followed right behind shooting 50% from the field, recording 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Franklin was able to outrebound the Yellow Jackets 34-33 despite an impressive performance on the glass from HCAC scoring and rebounding leader, Kelsey Tietje of Defiance. Tietje finished the day with a double-double for the Yellow Jackets, 13 points and 17 rebounds. Ashley Williams also contributed 8 points for Defiance.
Franklin women's basketball return to the Spurlock Center next Wednesday night to face HCAC rival Hanover College at 7:30 pm.
