Franklin, Ind. – The Franklin College women's basketball team fell 70-39 to Elmhurst College to open the 2016-17 season on Tuesday inside the Spurlock Center.
Junior Riley Achenbach was the Grizzlies leading scorer with 7 points in Tuesday night's matchup against Elmhurst. Following closely behind was senior guard Blayr Poston with 6 points. The Grizzlies struggled from the field collectively recording only 13 made field goals (29.5%). Sarah Taylor contributed a team high 4 rebounds for Franklin.
Elmhurst had a strong offensive showing Tuesday night shooting 48.2% from the field and 43.5% from behind the arc. The Blue Jays were led by forward Mikaela Eppard with 17 points. Eppard also tallied 11 rebounds and 2 assists on the night. Kalia Summerlin (11pts) and Hannah Lipman (12pts) also hit double digits in their 2016-17 debut.
Franklin rounds out the opening weekend by competing in the Hope Tournament from November 18-19 in Holland, Michigan.
