Women’s Basketball Loses at No. 8 Thomas More

Crestview Hills, Ky. - The Franklin College women's basketball team lost at No. 8 Thomas More College 90-67 to conclude play in the Julie Costello Memorial Classic on Sunday.

The Grizzlies (1-5) led 40-39 at halftime after shooting 57 percent from the floor and making four of their five three-point field goal attempts.

The visitors led 47-45 early in the second half after a three pointer by freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West). However, the Saints (5-0) went on an 11-0 run over six minutes to take a 56-47 lead with 11:31 remaining.

Sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) led four double-figure scorers with 17 points, including 13 in the first half. The forward also had a team-best eight rebounds. Brewer earned all-tournament honors over the two-day event.

Freshman Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) scored a career-high 14 points and made three 3-point field goals. Freshman Amber May (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) had a career-best 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench. DeSutter rounded out the balanced scoring with 12 points.

The Grizzlies shot 43 percent from the floor and made 7 of 12 shots from behind the arc.

Thomas More was paced by Sydney Moss with 38 points and 11 rebounds. She earned Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament. Moss, the 2012-13 Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year while at the University of Florida, made 10 of 11 free throw attempts. Jenny Burgoyne had 20 points.
