INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A trio of Franklin seniors were recognized by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) on Thursday (Feb. 21) afternoon when the league announced its list of indoor track and field all-conference choices.
Matt Stienke was named First Team All-HCAC for the second straight year, Nathan Adams was a Second Team All-HCAC selection and Kelsey Bowling was an honorable mention selection. Additionally, freshman Michael Heading and senior Laura Worthington were Franklin's recipients of the Christopher M. Ragsdale All-Sportsmanship award.
Stienke collected his second straight first team selection after a dazzling performance in the 60-meter hurdles. The Mooresville, Ind.-native took gold in the event with a time of 8.79 seconds, finishing .06 seconds ahead of the league's second-place finisher.
Adams closed out his career with two strong showings in the throw pits, earning all-conference accolades with a runner-up finish and a 17.65-meter heave in the weight throw. Adams would also set a new PR in the shot put with a 13.45-meter throw, taking sixth place in that event.
Bowling was the top scorer for the Franklin women, scoring in three separate events. The Osgood, Ind.-native earned all-conference accolades thanks to a pair of third-place finishes, setting a new PR in the long jump (5.07m) and grabbing bronze in the triple jump (10.26m). Additionally, she would nab a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, matching a personal best with a time of 9.72 seconds.
Franklin resumes their indoor campaign on Saturday (Feb. 23), traveling to Anderson, Ind. for the Fred Wilt Invitational.
