CARMEL, Ind. – The Franklin swimming and diving teams took home all four weekly conference honors when the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced its swimming and diving athletes of the week on Tuesday (Nov. 19) afternoon.
Junior Noah Tallman and freshman Caileigh McCafferty were named the league's swimmers of the week while freshmen Faith Jackson and Gauge Creech collected diver of the week honors. Creech earned his second weekly honor of the season while the other three collected their first weekly award of 2019-20.
Tallman was the lone member of the Franklin men's team to claim multiple race wins last week as the team split duals with Centre and Transylvania. The Bargersville, Ind.-native started off the weekend with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle on Friday night against Centre, touching the wall in 4:54.47. One day later, he switched gears to the 100 butterfly where he won with a time of 52.67 while also taking part in winning 400 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams. It is Tallman's second career Male Swimmer of the Week award.
McCafferty won all five individual races over the weekend en route to her first weekly conference award. The Wonder Lake, Ill.-native won all three races she took part in on Friday night, winning the 100 backstroke (1:00.41), 200 backstroke (2:12.67) and the 200 IM (2:14.94). One day later against Transylvania, she earned wins in the 100 butterfly (1:00.08) and 100 backstroke (1:01.69) and teamed with three others to win the 400 freestyle relay.
Creech broke his own program and HCAC record for five dives off the one-meter board on Friday night with 222.76 points. It was part of two wins on the night for the Franklin-native, as later he won a six-dive competition with 359.77 points to give him an impressive 582.53 on the night. Creech continued his mastery of the one-meter board on Saturday, putting up 287.10 points in the team's win over Transy.
Jackson earned her first diver of the week award after hitting a qualifying mark for the NCAA Diving Regional on Friday night. The Greenwood, Ind.-native put up 182.55 points in the five-dive event and 255.44 over six dives to finish with 437.99 points total off the one-meter board. Against Transylvania, she recorded 214.13 points on the one-meter board and 179.40 points on the three-meter board, winning both events.
Franklin resumes their season on Friday (Nov. 22), when they head to Crawfordsville, Ind. for the first day of the Wabash Invitational. Action gets underway at 10:00 a.m.
