GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Franklin College softball team wrapped up their regular season road schedule on Sunday (Apr. 29) afternoon, taking on in-state and in-region foe DePauw University.
The Grizzlies (24-9) jumped out in front in the early going but struggled to string together hits the rest of the way. DePauw (20-18) held the Franklin offense to just one hit over the final six innings as the hosts came back for a 3-1 win.
Franklin pounced for their lone run of the game in the top of the first. Monica Collins led off the game with a bunt single, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single from Weber to open the scoring.
DePauw would counter with a two-out RBI single of their own in the first to knot things up before adding a pair of go-ahead runs in the third. The Grizzlies put a runner on third with two outs in both the third and fifth innings, but were unable to scrape together a hit each time.
Weber finished the day with two of the Grizzlies' three hits, adding another single in the sixth inning. Emily Thompson was the only other Grizzly to reach base, drawing a walk in the fifth inning.
Franklin wraps up the 2018 regular season on Monday (Apr. 30) afternoon with a pair of games against Wilmington College at Behrens Field in Franklin. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
