Softball Set to Host Defiance to Conclude Regular Season on Monday

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team concludes its 2016 regular season when it hosts Defiance College on Monday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. from Behrens Field.

The Grizzlies are 23-11 this spring and stand in third place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) standings with an 8-6 league record. The top four teams qualify for the league's postseason tournament.

The doubleheader was postponed from Saturday due to projected rain forecast.

The team is coming off a home doubleheader sweep against Bluffton University last Saturday, winning 2-0 in the opener before picking up a 13-0 win in five innings. The Grizzlies set a new school record for wins in a season by picking up their 23rd victory of the season.

Sophomore left-handed starting pitcher Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) allowed only six hits and recorded six strikeouts in tossing the shutout. Paszek is 14-4 this season with 88 strikeouts. She is the reigning HCAC Pitcher of the Week.

Junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) leads the team with 39 runs scored this spring. She also leads the team with a .456 batting average.

Senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) has driven in 42 runs and connected on five home runs. She is batting .412 on the season and has scored 33 runs. Struewing has recorded 50 hits and legged out 21 doubles.

Junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) leads the team with six home runs in 2016. She is hitting at a .375 clip and has driven in 27 runs.

Sophomore Morgan Burch (Coatsville, Ind./Cascade) has recorded five doubles, three triples, and two home runs this spring. She carries a .361 batting average into this weekend's action.

Sophomore Grace Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) has tallied 27 runs batted in with a .340 batting average. Junior Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) recorded a triple last Saturday and went 3-3 in the second game. Johnson is batting .329 this spring.

In the circle, senior Bri McClellan (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) improved to 6-3 on Saturday after tossing five scoreless innings. McClellan only allowed three hits in the 13-0 victory over Bluffton.
